Steubenville Schools levy approved

STEUBENVILLE — Jefferson County voters considered levies seeking funding for schools, fire protection and operating expenses Tuesday.

A total of 26 levies were submitted across the county for the general election ballot.

Voters approved a 4.7-mill  Steubenville City School District levy to help with general permanent improvements for a continuing period of time, while the Jefferson County Joint Vocational School District is seeking the renewal of a 1-mill levy for current expenses for 10 years. The Steubenville levy is for the same millage as the current levy which is set to expire in December, according to school officials. The levy received 3,809 votes in support and 3,913 against.

Also approved by voters was a additional l9 mills for fire protection in The Short Creek Joint Fire District — which includes the villages of Adena and Smithfield — and a 6-mill levy for the Seven Ranges Joint Fire District, which includes Wintersville and unincorporated areas of Cross Creek Township.

The Short Creek levy received 935 votes in support and 453 against while the Seven Ranges levy received 2,486 votes supporting and 1,714 against.
