Drugs seized in Dillonvale

DILLONVALE — The Jefferson County Drug Task Force seized a large quantity of drugs, along with guns and cash, following searches of a residence on a township road and a vehicle Monday.

Task Force Commander John Lemal said two people are facing charges after detectives executing a search warrant seized roughly 22 grams of fentanyl, three guns and several thousand dollars in cash from a residence at 147 Smithfield Township Road 1308.

Just prior to serving the warrant, he said detectives “surveilled a vehicle leaving the residence … (and) called for a traffic stop.”

The driver, Kijana Smith, 47, of Wheeling is facing drug possession and trafficking charges after he was pulled over for a traffic violation and Jefferson County K-9 Ripley, who was deployed for a free air sniff, gave a positive reaction.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputy Doug Hardsouk searched the 2017 Jeep Cherokee Smith was driving “and located a hidden compartment under the driver’s seat, where 225 grams of cocaine, 50 grams of heroin, 13 grams of crack and (about) $15,000 in U.S. currency were seized,” Lemal noted. The vehicle also was seized. The seized drugs have an estimated street value of $30,000, officials said.

The Drug Task Force, which is composed of members of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, Steubenville Police Department and the Jefferson County Prosecutor’s Office, was assisted by the Jefferson County SRT team, the Jefferson County K-9 Unit and Smithfield Township police.
