BRIDGEPORT — There will be several new faces at the Bridgeport Exempted Village Schools campus next year, after the board of education unanimously approved the hiring a a new principal and others on Wednesday evening.
Village resident Jack Fisher received a two-year contract to serve as high school principal in the coming year.
“I’m excited for a great, hopefully very long, successful future with you guys,” Fisher said when introducing himself and his wife, Rebecca.
Both Fishers are Martins Ferry High School graduates, but Jack said they moved to Bridgeport about five years ago. They have two sons, 3-year-old Jacob and 2-year-old Riley.
Superintendent Brent Ripley welcomed Fisher aboard, resenting him with Bulldog T-shirts for the entire family.
“We don’t wear purple here,” Ripley quipped in a reference to the couple’s background as Purple Riders.
Fisher said he completed his bachelor’s degree at West Lberty University and a master’s in education at Kent State University. The principalship will be his first job as a school administrator. He most recently worked for five years as a guidance counselor at Belmont Career Center.
The board approved Fisher to train for the principal’s position as needed during June and July. During that period, he will be paid $387 a day.
Fisher will replace Thomas Daley, who is leaving BHS to become the Union Local High School principal.
He received a three-year contract for that position on March 17.
Bridgeport board members also approved the hiring of:
∫ Matt McFarland as a social studies and math teacher for fourth through ninth grades for one year;
∫ Hannah Boyer as a high school social studies teacher for one year;
∫ Jamie Simons as a three-hour cook for one year; and
∫ Zachary Heslop as a kindergarten through 12th grade cross categorical teacher for one year, after accepting the resignation of Michelle Webb as elementary cross categorical teach, effective Friday.
Karla Schambach was approved for a retire/rehire one-year contract, while a similar contract for Beth Albaugh was rescinded. Ripley assured everyone present that the action regarding Albaugh was related to the need to post the position and that she had been an exemplary employee.
Extended school year summer positions were approved for intervention specialist Joanna Vincenzo, paraprofessionals Roslyn Ice, Tom Ault and SUsan Ault, and teachers Kylie O’Connell and Tracy Velickoff. School nurses Dana Kreiter and Susan Ault were approved for summer camp positions.
Three people were hired as classified substitute staff: Loretta Hannahs as an aide, retroactive to March 29; Cailee Howard, custodial and cafeteria, retroactive to May 2; and Shari Kacsmar, custodial and cafeteria, pending a background check.
Supplemental contracts were awarded to Lisa Clark as Title I coordinator and to Jim Davenport as high school yearbook adviser.
The board then entered a closed-door session to discuss personnel and a session to discuss contract negotiations.
The board’s next meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. June 28.
