Shelter help sought by volunteer

Dear Editor, A letter to Harrison County residents: I am a volunteer for the Humane Society of Harrison County’s Animal Shelter. The building they are leasing has been surveyed to be sold and their lease is up this coming spring. They need assistance from the county and the residents to secure a place for a new shelter. This shelter has also enabled TNVR (trap, neuter, vaccinate and return) over 100 community cats this year alone. One cat can have up to five ...

The Department of Agriculture has provided billions of dollars of subsidies to livestock producers. Surely, it can offer some assistance to the nascent cultivated-meat industry, which holds so much promise. ...

Dear Editor, I’m sure most of us are well aware of the attack on innocent civilians by Hamas on October 7th, in which over 1400 Israelis were killed. This brutal attack underscores the need for Americans to better understand the Middle East and its challenges. That is one reason why I want to share an educational opportunity being offered locally. This Saturday, November 11th from 10 a.m. to noon at the Harbor of Hope Assembly of God Church in St. Clairsville, Dr. Matthew Anthony Harper, a White House and State Department Correspondent (for a quarterly online publication), ...

Rethinking support for Israel

Dear Editor, The people were penned in a densely populated area with almost no food, fuel, or other necessities. They were then attacked with all the weapons of a modern army; their housing was blown up and burned, with thousands dying, many of them women and children. Sound like Gaza? No, we’re describing the Warsaw ghetto in 1943. The Nazis were determined to eradicate Jewish people and used every weapon at their disposal, with no regard ...
