Dear Editor, “Let them eat cake,” is what Marie Antoinette said about the starving Parisians in 1789. While unlike late 18th century France America currently has not had cases of actual starvation, but it has, however, been shown that one in eight Americans reported they often didn’t have enough to eat. Dear Editor, The students of St. Clairsville-Richland City Schools will have the benefit of new and exciting hands-on activities because of grants like the one supplied by the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio and Gulfport Energy. Several grants were awarded and will be used in the following ways: 1. $2,000 for a 3D printer for the middle school computer classroom. This will allow students the opportunity to show their creativity and remain engaged in the classroom. 2. $5,000 for Pottery Wheels for the art classroom in the high school. Dear Editor, Why is it that current President Donald J. Trump continues his unprecedented, and futile, efforts to attempt to overturn the results of what has, unquestionably, proven to be a completely lawful, fair and democratic election that he lost quite decisively? Dear Editor, In the late 18th century, Lord Acton warned us: “Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely.” I thought of Lord Acton’s warning as I read Robert Defrank’s news article ‘Red Wave’ floods local seats in The Times Leader. The Belmont County Republican Party now has absolute local power.
