Remember judicial races

Dear Editor, We have a lot to consider on Election Day. As a matter of fact, judicial races are extremely important but oftentimes get overlooked. I have found, though, that you really need to do some research before you cast your vote. One race that is of great interest to me is the Ohio Supreme Court and in that race my pick will be Sharon Kennedy. You may say, “Why Sharon?” Well it’s like this, she possesses the same worldview as I do. Most importantly, she recognizes the importance of God in our everyday lives and is guided by those principles when decisions need to be made. ...

Past meets today

Dear Editor, The Bible is the first place that tells us history repeats and generations commit the mistakes of their ancestors. (Ecclesiastes 1:9-11) So it is no surprise when I saw “certain groups” restrain from condemning the riots until they were absolutely forced to condemn them for political purposes. I read a article about the early years of the Nazi movement and it is frighteningly similar. In 1933, Hermann Goering was appointed Minister of the Interior (i.e., Police Commissioner) of Prussia. One of Goering’s first innovations was a radical change in the ...

Grandparents’ Rights

Dear Editor, So the Purple Riders had a cross-country race today, an invitational at Meadowbrook. Because of COVID, it was restricted to only parents and siblings. The next invitational is also restricted, and then come OVAC, District, and Regional, etc. The decision evidently hasn’t been made yet for those races. I don’t think it’s fair for grandparents and other close family to not be able to go to these types of events. This team is in Ohio. I think West Virginia decided to let grandparents go to these types of events. I have always supported my kids and ...

Catholics’ moral obligations in voting

Dear Editor, For Catholics, responsible citizenship, including voting, is important. However, a critical issue hasn’t been explained very well to Catholic voters: a political candidate’s position on just one issue disqualifies that candidate from receiving votes from faithful Catholics. A “disqualifying issue” pertains to actions of intrinsic moral evil: actions which can never at any time or under any circumstances be promoted, committed, or enabled. A disqualifying issue is so grave and important that it is non-negotiable, making a candidate completely unacceptable for ...

Keep prayer, anthem in schools

Dear Editor, A new anthem for what? The old said it all. When schools used to recite The Lord’s Prayer and Pledge of Allegiance to the flag, we were being taught that all people matter. Why do others feel that it is necessary to change our respect to our flag if they would just listen to what it says? The national anthem is not for one person or race but for all. It stands for all the brave and those who have died for all of us to be free regardless of race or color. Pledge allegiance to the flag stands for one nation under God and Justice for all not for one person or ...

Support the Police

Dear Editor, Endorsements from the police for a political candidate are rare, and I’m honored to be the only local candidate endorsed by the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #1 for the 2020 election. Men and women who choose a law enforcement career are choosing one of the world’s most dangerous professions. They are choosing to protect people they seldom know and oftentimes giving their own lives to keep our community safe. In the last couple years, their job has become even more dangerous and thankless. There are many places we should be cutting government waste, but our police ...
