Doerr, O’Brien claim wins at Oglebay’s Miklas event

The Oglebay Park Golf Club held its annual Miklas Meat Market event on June 4 with a field of 102 golders taking part. Joe Doerr won the medal division scoring with a round of 64, which was a shot better than Paul Kurtz. Mike Wetzel was third with a 68 and Jay Davis was fourth with a 69. Bryan Myers was fifth with a 70. Mike Ricci also posted a 70 as did Bob Clark, while George Templin finished with a 71. In the handicap scoring, McKenzie O’Brien shot a 59 to prevail. STEUBENVILLE — Basketball camps are summertime fixtures. Most are associated with a specific school and used as a program fundraiser. Such is not the case with the inaugural Cynthia Basketball Camp. The Belmont Hills Country Club held its annual Memorial Day event with a full field of participants. Winning the event was the team that consisted of Zach Azallion, Dick Cope, Jake Olsavsky and Donna Melchiori, firing a round of 63. There was a three-way tie for second at a round of 64. One of the area’s longest-running youth golf tournaments is just a few weeks away. Lewicki takes aim at pro ice career

MOUNDSVILLE -- Her brilliant collegiate career is now on ice. Kristin Lewicki, however, is not ready to hang up her skates. The John Marshall High product scripted an All-American hockey career at Adrian College in Michigan. It ended this past March when she led her Bulldogs to the national championship game en route to being named the Division III player of the year. Adrian ended the season with a brilliant 28-3 record.
