High School Roundup: Shadyside Baseball Downs Bellaire

SHADYSIDE – Shadyside scored three times in the bottom of the third and added three more two innings later in defeating visiting Bellaire, 7-3, Thursday in high school baseball action on Fleming Field.

Dom Forgacs recorded a trio of sacrifice flies to lead the Tigers. Trey Wright also added a sac fly and single that produced a trio of runs.

Jordan Lednik and Levin Bell each singled twice and drove in a run for the Big Reds. Ayden Warner had a run-scoring base hit.

Union Local 6, Madonna 4

WEIRTON – Trailing 4-2 after four innings, the visiting Jets scored three times in the top of the fifth for the win on Edwin J. Bowman Field.

Dustin Stitt singled twice and plated a run, while Colby Carpenter had a run-scoring double. Braden Kovach had two singles and an RBI. Brody Gregor delivered a run-producing base hit.

Reno Fuscardo and Evan Kaczmarek each singled twice for Madonna. Sam Brooks singled in a run.

Morgantown 4, Linsly 1

MORGANTOWN – The Cadets (13-5-1) outhit the host Mohigans at Mylan Park, but a pair of costly errors spelled doom. Only one of Morgantown’s runs was earned.

Brodi Prout doubled for one of Linsly’s five hits. Rhyder Dlesk drove in the lone run.

Tucker Doty struck out two, but walked five in giving up just one hit in 4.2 innings.

St. Clairsville 8, John Marshall 1

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The Red Devils jumped on the Monarchs with four first-inning runs on their way to a home victory Thursday.

Rowan Mellot and Roby Hanna each had triples and two RBI apiece for St. Clairsville. Brennan Rice and Kohen Holmes each hit doubles for St. C., who had seven hits as a team.

Hudson Florence pitched the complete game for the Red Devils, striking out six.

Kayden Knapp was saddled with the loss for John Marshall, striking out three in four innings.

Three of St. Clairsville’s runs were scored as unearned. The Monarchs were guilty of six errors Thursday.

SOFTBALL

Monroe Central 15, Union Local 6

WOODSFIELD – The host Seminoles banged out 19 hits in rolling past the Jets, who scored all of their runs in the second inning after Monroe Central put up 10 in the bottom of the first.

Kennadi Jorris singled, doubled twice and drove in four runs. Olivia Earley belted a three-run homer, while Brylee McFrederick (singled, double), Kamryn Winland (2 singles, double) and Allie McFrederick (single) all knocked in a pair of runs. Jadyn Miller recorded three singles and two doubles that accounted for an RBI.

Maclarin Craft singled twice and doubled.

Khloe Gallagher doubled twice and knocked in a pair of runs for Union Local. Edyn McGary singled thrice and drove in a run. Myah Martin recorded a two-run double.

John Marshall 8, Oak Glen 3

MOUNDSVILLE — The Monarchs and Golden Bears split a pair of games on Thursday.

In game one, the Monarchs’ Kaylee White collected three hits. She doubled in the third inning, singled in the sixth inning, and singled in the fifth inning.

Lily Dijkstra earned the win for John Marshall. The pitcher allowed eight hits and three runs over seven innings, striking out two and walking one. Mattie Carney took the loss for Oak Glen. The pitcher went six innings, allowing eight runs on nine hits, striking out six and walking three.

Masyn Inclan collected two hits for the Monarchs.

Danica Holden provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Oak Glen with two runs batted in. The infielder went 2-for-3 on the day. Holden, Mikalyn Balch, and Carney each collected two hits for the Golden Bears.

In game two, Oak Glen scored via an error and Kaylee White hit a solo home run to tie the game 1-1 after the first inning

In the bottom of the second, John Marshall broke up the tie when Tessa Dougherty singled, scoring one run. Then a double by Nora Shock followed to extend the lead to 4-1.

Oak Glen tied the game up in the top of the third thanks to two singles. The Golden Bears tied the game at four on a single by Danica Holden.

Oak Glen took a permanent lead i the top of the fourth.

Holden earned the win for Oak Glen. The righty gave up nine hits and four runs over seven innings, striking out eight and walking two. Grace Seidler took the loss for the Monarchs. The starting pitcher went three innings, surrendering five runs (four earned) on 10 hits, striking out none and walking three.

Nora Shock led the team with two runs batted in. Elaina Taylor went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead John Marshall Varsity Monarchs in hits.

Oak Glen amassed 13 hits in the game. Holden drove the middle of the lineup, leading the Golden Bears with three runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 2-for-3 on the day. Holden, Neveah Heath, Mattie Carney, Brayley Lash, and Brystol Holden each collected two hits for Oak Glen.
