Purple City marks health care revival

Dear Editor, A milestone event recently occurred on Thursday, Feb. 4, at 11 a.m. with the reopening of the refurbished East Ohio Regional Hospital in Martins Ferry, which had successfully met the health care needs of area residents for well over a century until its most unfortunate closing in the fall of 2019, is now, thankfully, back in business. Kudos and much gratitude is due to the new owner of East Ohio Regional Hospital, Dr. John Johnson, a very prominent psychiatrist and businessman from the Dayton, Ohio area, who purchased the facility from its former owner Alecto Health Care ...

Proud Dittohead

Dear Editor, (On Feb. 17), we the American people lost one of our most valuable and influential citizens, Rush Limbaugh. I personally feel like I have lost a best friend or a family member. For three hours a day and five days a week, we all had the opportunity to listen to his brilliance on the radio. I was 100% behind his opinions, because whenever I was on the fence about an issue, his thoughtful, well sourced opinions always cleared my judgement. I would have supported him in any political and societal situations, because like he said, “Rush is Right” and he had “Talent ...

Letters continue to criticize Trump

Dear Editor, Many of the submitted letters to this publication seem to still care to belittle, denigrate and condemn a POTUS that was seeking reelection last year. Nearly one-half of the American voters (75 million) were defeated. NOT just Donald J. Trump, but, 1/2 of America (so to speak). Before I retired, when President Obama was elected by majority America (twice) I the told my coworkers, of his support (not mine) I wish him, and America great success. I hope so much so as, “we build monuments to his great accomplishments.” I truly do not believe those union ...

Dictator

Dear Editor, As of this writing, Mr. Biden has done more to destroy our autonomy as a country than his mentor, Barack Obama. It seems very hypocritical for an acting president who claimed in the debates that a man who uses executive orders to rule a country is a dictator yet has signed more executive orders (40) in his first ten days than the total of his three predecessors during the same amount of time. The results are overwhelming. The increasing use of tax dollars for baby killing, loss of tens of thousands of jobs, the lending of money to foreign countries based upon their ...

Time to reduce military spending

Dear Editor, I am a pacifist even though I have served three years on active duty in the U.S. military. I am not religious. I believe in science; faith doesn’t work for me. I won’t believe in an afterlife until someone can scientifically prove to me of the existence of such a place. (I do highly respect the good human work religions do.) So according to my way of thinking, you only go around once. A life — any life — is therefore very precious. Killing is wrong. Period! I am not naive. There are times when it is necessary to take a life to save other lives; therefore, ...

Johnson urged to pass H.R. 1

Dear Editor, I am an Army Veteran in Bill Johnson’s congressional district. I urge Bill to pass the For the People Act (H.R.1). We need a government that works for all of us. It is essential to protect and strengthen voting rights, to end partisan gerrymandering, to close the revolving door and ethics reforms. I urge Bill to pass the For The People Act (H.R. 1). It is a priority that will make a major difference for our democracy by enacting small donor-funded elections, expanded early voting, automatic voter registration, vote-by-mail for any voter who wants it, disclosure ...
